July 4th
Hi everyone :-)
July 4th is an Independence Day in America, as you already know. There are lots of parades, fire works and parties in all different states. Unfortunately, due to the recent accident of forest/mountain fires, there are 5-6 states announced a fire work regulation this for the july 4th this year. I am not sure if i'm going out to watch the fire work show in my town tonight (may be not, i'm just lazy...hehe)
What is the next big holiday in Japan...I'm thinking...."Obon"??

Good morning-!
Know what Karl? I was born in Nagasaki, and people in Nagasaki use lots of "bakuchiku" during New Year's celebration and obon. I still remember my childhood that someone in my family passed away (think it was my great grand father...) so all family members helped each other and made a big "shourou-bune". After it's completed, male family members carried the shourou-bune and marched on the street in town, and we used lots of bakuchiku during that celemony. I was a little scared about the terrible noise of bakuchiku back then because I was a little girl, but now I think it's such a treasured memory in my life.

Good morning every body.
Your comment remind me spring festival at Germany and new year fire warks of Hong Kong.
When I visit at Germany, I happend met spring festival. Everybody dressing unique dress and marched around town.
In Hong Kong, all use of gun powder are prohibited because possiblity of fire. Many years before, Hong Kong made big fire caused by fire clackers. Even small use of gun powder also prohibited. So, race of athletic meet of Japanese School in Hong Kong start "Ready, Pufu"???? Start with sound of hone.
Chinese people likes Fire Clackers or "BAKUCHIKU", but use of this also prohibitted. Instead of this prohibit, Hong Kong Governmnt make big fire works festival onece a year at Year end.
Yes, our next long vacation will be obon. I'm expected two weeks day off.

Hello Marsy.
You are born at Nagasaki. My grand mother and grand father once lived at Nagasaki. They talked about Nagasaki, but it about only small area, so I don't know where they lived.
I'm mainly city dweller, so I have no chance to attend ceremony. My experience of obon was only when I went to home town of my mother at my every young day. I remember I made some house by egg plants or culumbers with my grand mother.
My son and doughter have no such experience, so how goes these ceremony in the future.
